Pave Engagement Ring

Pave (pronounced pah-VAY, French for "paved") sets tiny diamonds so closely along the band that the metal seems to disappear beneath a surface of light. A pave engagement ring makes the whole ring sparkle, not just the centre — and makes the centre stone look larger by contrast. Our 188 designs run from $887 to $5,251.

Pave styles

A pave ring can line the band in a single row, run micro-pave in delicate double rows, or wrap stones around the entire shank. Pair pave with any centre — the pave diamond band amplifies a solitaire and doubles the sparkle of a halo. Every pave diamond is bead-set by hand.

The lab-grown advantage

Pave means many small stones, so lab-grown pricing multiplies the saving across every one — IGI-certified brilliance, edge to edge, for a fraction of mined cost.

What to know before buying a pave engagement ring

Pave setting styles trade sparkle against durability, and the names matter. French pave cuts tiny V-grooves under each stone so light enters from below — maximum fire, minimum visible metal, but the most delicate. Bright-cut pave sets stones in a channel with polished bevel walls — sturdier, slightly less brilliant. Micro-pave uses stones under 1.5mm in one or more rows for the smoothest surface of light. Shared-prong (or "fishtail") spreads stones with prongs between — durable and sparkly but higher-profile. For daily wear on active hands, bright-cut or shared-prong outlast French pave.

Bead security is the thing to inspect. Each pave stone sits in tiny gold beads raised and burnished over its edge; poorly-raised beads are why pave loses stones. Ask whether the beads are hand-raised (stronger) or cast in place, and factor an annual tightening check into ownership. A U-cut or scalloped pave shows more of each stone's side and sparkles more but grips slightly less than a bead-set row.

On resizing, a fully-paved shank cannot be cut without disturbing stones. If you want the option to resize later, choose a ring with a plain metal section on the underside of the band, or size precisely up front. Pave's small stones make clarity and colour grades near-irrelevant — buy eye-clean melee and spend on setting craftsmanship instead.

Pave ring FAQs

What does pave mean?

French for "paved" — tiny diamonds set so close together that the band reads as a continuous surface of light. Pronounced pah-VAY.

Does a pave band make the centre look bigger?

Yes — the surrounding sparkle and the fine band contrast make a centre stone read noticeably larger.

What is micro pave?

Pave with especially tiny stones in one or more delicate rows — maximum sparkle, most refined look. Ours are hand bead-set.

Do pave diamonds fall out?

Rarely, with good setting — but pave earns an annual prong check like any small-stone work. Bead-setting holds each stone in tiny gold beads.

Can pave be resized?

Within limits — the diamond section cannot be cut, but a plain area of the shank often can. Ask before sizing far from your measured size.

Are pave diamonds real?

Every one — IGI-certified lab-grown diamonds, identical to mined, which is what makes fully-paved bands affordable.
