Solitaire Engagement Rings

A solitaire puts your entire budget into one place: the diamond. The setting recedes, the stone carries the ring, and nothing competes for attention — which is why the solitaire has outlasted every trend since the four-prong mount was invented. It is also the easiest engagement ring to pair with any wedding ring or band later. Our solitaire diamond engagement rings run from $827 to $6,444, with 473 designs available.

Solitaire settings and shapes

Four-prong and six-prong crowns, cathedral arches that lift the stone higher, sleek bezels for hands-on lifestyles, and knife-edge or comfort-fit bands. Every shape works as a solitaire: round, oval, cushion, pear, emerald cut, princess and more.

Why lab-grown matters most here

With no side stones to share the stage, the centre diamond is everything — and lab-grown pricing means that one stone can be dramatically larger and higher-graded for the same spend, with identical IGI certification.

The three solitaire ring decisions

First, prongs: four show more diamond and read more modern; six hold more securely and frame a round into a flower-like crown. Under 1 carat, four keeps the stone from looking overwhelmed; above 1.5, six earns its keep in security alone.

Second, band width. A slim 1.6–1.8mm band makes any centre stone look larger by contrast — the classic trick of the style — while 2.5mm and up wears more substantially and suits larger hands. Third, metal colour changes the stone: white metal disappears behind a high-colour diamond, while yellow and rose prongs cast a trace of warmth into the stone from below. With a slightly warmer diamond grade, a yellow gold setting actually flatters it — and saves money — because the eye stops comparing the stone to a white reference.

Solitaire ring FAQs

What is a solitaire ring?

A solitaire ring holds a single diamond and nothing else — no side stones, no halo. The word comes from the French for "alone," and it remains the most classic engagement ring style.

What does a solitaire ring mean?

The solitaire ring meaning is singularity: one stone for one person. Its simplicity is the statement — the entire ring exists to present a single diamond.

What is an emerald cut solitaire ring?

An emerald cut solitaire ring pairs the step-cut rectangular stone with a plain band — the most architectural version of the style. See our emerald cut solitaires above.

Do you make princess cut solitaire rings?

Yes — a princess cut solitaire ring puts the square brilliant centre stage, usually in a four-prong mount that protects its corners.

Can a solitaire ring have diamonds on the band?

Purists say no — but a solitaire ring with diamonds set into the band (pave) keeps the single-centre-stone spirit while adding sparkle underneath. We stock both interpretations.

Is an oval solitaire engagement ring a good choice?

One of the best — an oval solitaire engagement ring combines the finger-lengthening oval outline with the clean single-stone setting, and it has been the most requested combination of the past few years.
